Recurring Event: Chatham Militaria Fair

Chatham Militaria Fair is a monthly event that Cold War Provost attends when possible. Held on the second Sunday of each month, and commencing from 07:30hrs through to 14:00hrs, the event is popular with militaria retailers and Living History Re-Enactors alike - so much so that many Re-Enactors turn up "In Kit", some of them en-mass in their groups, and conducting recruitment - much as Cold War Provost does!

Event site: Number 5 Slip, Chatham Historic Dockyard

Chatham Historic Dockyard is a semi-working site; whilst all the official MoD work has long since left the site, and the site still has civilian shipyard works for small boats, etc; in addition, the site is classified as a Museum, with many exhibits of a Royal navy theme on site.

Method Report

The Method Report is a statement required by our insurers detailing what we will be doing at this event.

Cold War Provost Living History Group will be providing a visible prescence of period Military Police from the Cold War (1960s through 1980s), with the following intentions and aims:

To provide a point of contact for Recruiting purposes,
To generate and/or renew contact(s) with other re-enactment/Living Hisory Groups, and
To answer any questions member of the public might have regarding the RMP during the Cold War.
There will be no active engagement in physical re-enactment scenarios or re-enactments.
Weapons commenserate with CWP Rule 10 and CWP SOP 5 and the correct Order of Dress worn by a member may be carried.
There will be no discharge of any form of RIF/BF weaponry, and only inert/drill rounds may be carried.
Commenserate with CWP SOP 5.1, magazines containing only inert/drill rounds may be loaded into DA/RIF/BF weapons.
No demonstrations of Policing Arrest/Restraint Techniques will be carried out (with the possible exception of pre-posed STATIC NON-MOVING displays for photographic purposes only)
There may be a requirement to help mount a simulated "access control" post on the trades/Re-Enactor gate. UKMS2000 will advise Group leadership if this is the case.
- Members will be co-located with UKMS 2000 Staff for this duty, if we are required to undertake it.
- UKMS2000 staff will be in overall charge of access control, and CWP members will not under any circimstances act as security staff - we are not authorised by the SIA, qualified, or insured for that purpose.

Attendance

Attendance at the Chatham Militaria Fair is not mandatory. However, If you intend to turn up, please make this known on the forum (new location, contact Senior members for details).

Emergency Services in the immediate area:

All Military Police make notes of things such as useful telephone numbers, locations, and so on, in the back of their issued notebooks, that relate to their current duty postings: It is, in fact, a requirement that they make such notes, and you might find them formalised into photocopied noted stuffed, stapled, folded, or otherwise secreted into their notebook wallets.

With this in mind, it might be worth your noting the following details either into the back of your notebook, or on a seperate sheet to be kept with your notebook at all times while at the Chatham Militaria Fair.

Cold War Provost Vehicles

Members of Cold War Provost who are drivers, and vehicle Registered Keepers, are reminded that they must adhere to Cold War Provost SOPs 2, 3 and 4 in regard to attending this event with their vehicles.

AUTHORISED ORDERS OF DRESS AT THE CHATHAM MILITARIA FAIR

With effect from 1st May 2012, and at the request of Regimental Headquarters Royal Military Police, due to the reintroduction of No 13/14 Barrack Dress as a duty order of dress for serving RMP personnel, the primary order of dress for CWP members at the Chatham Militaria Fair events shall be No 13/14 Working Dress or, failing that, No 8 Combat Dress.

As with all things, there are two main exceptions for this, these being for the November and December meetings of the Chatham Militaria Fair, as follows:

November (Remembrance Parade).
Due to the solemnity of the date, for the November (National Remembrance) meeting, No 2 Service Dress is authorised. Those without No 2 Dress may wear No 14 Barrack Dress or, failing that, No 14 Working Dress. Combat Dress is not to be worn at the Remembrance meeting.
December "End of Term" meeting.
While the November meeting is a solemn gathering, the December meeting is a much more happy gathering; however, as there's a photo shoot involved, we will wish to look our best, and as it's likely to be cold, a compromise is judged to be suitable. Therefore, for the December "End of Term" meeting and event photo shoot, No 13 Barrack Dress WITH reversible Patrol Jacket is authorised. Those without No 14 Barrack Dress may wear No 14 Working Dress or, failing that, No 8 Combat Dress.

No. 13/14 Working Dress

No 13 Working Dress comprises:

Trousers, Lightweight, green,
Boots, Combat, High,
Shirt, green, GS, (or Shirt KF, if you've managed to find one),
Jersey, Heavy, Wool with badge of authorised simulated rank correctly applied (November-April and during the hours of darkness at other times of the year if authorised),
Belt, working, nylon (or 58 belt),
Beret with cap badge,
Identity discs if procured by the member,
Whistle and chain,
Smock Combat to be carried ready for use.
Brassard with MP flash and badge of simulated rank shall be applied to the Smock Combat only.

No. 8 Combat Dress

No 8 Combat Dress comprises:

Trousers, Combat, Camouflaged,
Boots, Combat, High or Boots, DMS with Putees (Short),
Shirt, green, GS, (or Shirt KF, if you've managed to find one),
Jersey, Heavy, Wool with badge of authorised simulated rank correctly applied (November-April and during the hours of darkness at other times of the year if authorised),
Belt, working, nylon (or 58 belt),
Beret, Scarlet, RMP, with cap badge, RMP,
Identity discs if procured by the member,

Nos. 8 and 14 Dress:- "Shirt Sleeve Order" (Summer Months Order)

Shirt-sleeve order (May to October between 06:00hrs and 18.30hrs) - The shirt sleeves are flat-rolled up above the elbow.

No. 2 service Dress

Number 2 Service Dress is only authorised for wear at the November meetings of the Chatham Militaria Fair unless specifically authorised in CWP Operations Instructions for other events.

No 2 Service Dress comprises:

No. 14 Barrack Dress

Number 14 Barrack Dress is only authorised for wear at the December meetings of the Chatham Militaria Fair unless specifically authorised in CWP Operations Instructions for other events. Note that this diagram includes No 13 (summer months) OoD, to show how the stable belt should be worn.

No 14 Barrack Dress comprises:

Trousers, Army, Barrack Dress (the smart thick dark green polycotton trousers),
Shoes DMS, Boots DMS, or Boots Ammunition,
Shirt, No 2 with stabrit shoulder titles and badge of authorised simulated rank correctly applied,
Tie, woven, Other Ranks, Army.
Jersey, Heavy, Wool with stabrit shoulder titles and badge of authorised simulated rank correctly applied,
Belt, Stable, RMP,
Beret, Scarlet, RMP, with cap badge RMP,
Armlet, Scarlet, MP, and badges of simulated rank applied (sewn on to shirt and Jersey) where authorised,
Identity discs if procured by the member,
Whistle and chain,
May be worn with the Reversible High-Visibility Patrol Jacket, RMP (NSN CH 8415-99-132-1057), "Green side out", in cold and inclement weather. Note that epaulettes for this garmet are hard to find, but a workaround is possible - see Senior membership for details.

"Accountables" to be carried while at the Chatham Militaria Fair:

A six-monthly "check of accountables" will be held, where possible, in June and December at the Chatham Militaria Fair, with notebooks stamped after examination by Senior Membership.

WEAPONRY

Weapons need not be brought, but if you do bring them, only light personal weapons should be brought, either:

L9A1 Pistol, or
L2A3 sub-machine gun.

Radio Communications

Two way radios may only be carried if properly licenced to the user or group.

Private Business Radio equipment may only be used with properly type-approved radios, and only under the authority of a properly issued UK PBR licence from OFCOM or their authorised agent(s).
Amateur Radio equiment may only be utililised by members who are themselves properly licenced Radio Amateurs (as recognised by the CEPT); approved team frequencies will be:
- (Primary) 145.450 MHz F3E (FMn)
  and
- (Secondary) 433.550 MHz F3E (FMn).
Members using Radio Communications equipment will observe and obey their respective Licencing Conditions and Regulations at all times.

Webbing

Webbing for these weapons shall be as per Stripped (APWT) Order for the SMG, and belt ("Christmas Tree Order", i.e. Belt, Leather, White, with crossbelt, if in Barrack Dress), holster and lanyard for the pistol.

The usual carriage to event rules from Cold War Provost Rules and SOPs apply (Rule 10, and SOP 5).

As per SOP5.1, permission is granted for the fitting of one magazine (either empty of containing only inert/drill rounds) to your personal weapon(s) whilst you are at the event only.

The Chatham Militaria Fair is a display only (retail) event, thus Minimum Kit is to brought - the event is, after all, primarily intended mainly for the sale of militaria and related kit. Therefore for this event, SOP 5.1 shall also and at the same time be taken to mean that a maximum of two magazines only shall be carried, with one of those fitted to a weapon, and that no ammunition other than Inert/Drill rounds shall be brought on site (includes parking area).
