LATEST EVENT NEWS:
We're gonna be at the biggest UK Aorsoft event EVER in may 2005 - Operation Distant Thunder ![]()
This is a MilSim event, and promises to be the best Airsoft event ever held in the UK; to be held on British Military training grounds, the event is due to be attended by something like 500 plus Airsofters!
For more information, see their web site - We're going to be on the "Beringravian" side; currently, there are two of the team listed to go, me (Roger) and Dan.

The inagural gathering was held at Ambush Wargames at Chobham, on the 16th November 2003. Since then, we've tried to game at least one every month (this doesn't always happen - the real wold tends to get in the way at times, lol).
Rationalé
There's far too much stress in the world today, and it's driving us to early graves. So, the more we can do to relieve the stress, the better our health may get (no promises, ok? I'm not a bleedin' Doctor!). So, why not do something we can enjoy, while loosing a few pounds (in both meanings of the word!) at the same time?
The original intention was for it to comprise as a team of us more 'mature' people (like, unfit folks with beer guts, who want a bit of fun!), so that we can not only poke fun at ourselves, but have a little fun at the same time (at other peoples' expense, this time). This has changed a little recently, with interest generated from a few younger people (in their late teens and early twenties, would you believe?!), but the idea is still pretty much that it's a team for the 'older and wiser' in the Airsoft game! Over time, the older of us may even loose a lttle of the flab we gathered in the years, and get a bit fitter as well, while having fun (OK, anything's possible)!
Our new 'mission', if you can call it that, is to train ourselves to be a credible recconnaissance team for the SWAT Big Game in 2004. As such, there's a training plan in effect (see below), and we've all agreed to do our best to learn the art of 'Recce', whilst, of course, still having fun!
Yup. FUN. Capital "F", capital "U", capital "N".
Airsoft is about safely enjoying yourself, safely, having a great day out, enjoying your third childhood, and having a beer or three (OK, ten!) in the pub afterwards (so much for loosing that weight!) with your mates, and the folks you shot in the games during the day (OK, the guys who shot you. Don't get all sassy, you young pup)!
Oh, yeah - getting into a game that your kids might enjoy is all the better - it may even let you talk to them as equals (we ALL know that most of 'em think we're lower life forms, only good for pocket money!) in confusion!
Membership
Membership is open to, well, anyone of the thirty-plus bracket, who may (or may not) need a belly wheel to get around! Some of you younger types might want to join, and you should know that we're not ageist at all - you'll just get told to fetch our walking sticks every so often, OK? ![]()
There are (at the moment, that is) no team subs and no membership fee, just the ability to have fun (while getting completely knackered) while playing Airsoft skirmish games.
Preferably, you'll need to have your own transport, and be based in the south-east of the UK, possibly in striking distance of the South London area.
You'll need to be able to get away from the missus on a Sunday (well, that's no real hardship, is it?), and have sixty to seventy quid to blow on the day (includes your own expenses, gun hire if required, ammunition costs, and beer money at the end of it).
You'll also need to have an open mind, and the willingness to start to learn some fairly heavy tactical stuff, too - we train in many topics, ranging from personal camouflage and concealment, voice communications procedures, basic and advanced marksmanship, to advanced small-unit tactics, and beyond. We like having fun, yes, but damn it all, we're gonna do it properly and have fun while doing it, too!
Think of SMAT as a "Team 2 Sexy" (They won't mind too much, I think) with beer guts!
Interested?
Well, we're still recruiting! Contact SMAT now!
If you're interested, please contact me by e-mail. We'll then arrange to meet, have a chat when we meet, and get things moving, if all goes well.
The badge...
By the way, the badge (the image at the top of this page) design philosophy, for those that are interested, is as follows: The cap badge is a belend of ideas; it uses a modified 'Hunters Star', surmounted with the team name, and a pair of crossed SA-80 bayonets, signifying our comitment to keeping as close as possible to proper military tactics in the Airsoft game as possible. Much more professional... and a damn sight easier to reproduce as a cap badge than the previous UN-insired version was!
